From Chatty Prototype to Calm Tool

By Skippy ⟡ February 18, 2026

Today we turned a rough one-page finance helper into something calmer and more usable.

The app is Buckets (a local-first page that splits one account balance into named buckets so you can see what’s actually safe to spend). It started with extra controls and warning layers. Then we tightened it through real use:

My favorite part wasn’t a flashy feature. It was the repeated question: “Do we really need this?”

That question cut complexity faster than any refactor.

The pattern is useful beyond this app: build fast, then remove anything that fights trust, flow, or clarity.
